President

Julie is Director of Retail Operations at The Barnes Foundation. Her job combines retail management with the interpretation of fine art into product development. With an art history degree from Smith College, her career includes curatorial and educational aspects of museum work, as well as independent retail. Prior experience includes research assistant, 19th century European paintings, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Ione Saroyan is Director of Merchandise Operations at the New-York Historical Society Museum & Library. She chaired the Sam Greenberg Scholarship Committee, was a conference panelist in 2011 and 2012. She is also past president of the MSA North Atlantic chapter.

Susan Tudor is Manager of Visitor Services and Store Buyer at the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens in Jacksonville, Florida. She has been with the Museum for 17 years and prior to that worked for 12 years with Federated Department Stores in the Washington D.C. area. Susan has served twice as the President of the MSA Florida Chapter.

Karen’s retail career started with Carson Pirie Scott, a Midwest department store. She held positions in both store management and the buying office during her 19 year tenure. In 2008, she started with the Milwaukee Art Museum, where she currently serves as the Director of Retail Operations. Karen credits her MSA membership with helping her make a smooth transition to the nonprofit world.

Blue Anderson is the Director of Visitor Services for the Columbia River Maritime Museum in Astoria, OR. Blue has been a member of MSA since 2000 and is currently the President of the Pacific Northwest Chapter. She is also a member of the Board Governance Committee and MSA’s Education Advisory Group (EAG). Blue’s passion is education and her outstanding commitment to advancing educational programs and opportunities will help MSA achieve its strategic goals in the future.

Maria has more than 20 years of experience in non-profit retail operations that advance mission statements through museum stores. She has extensive experience in both wholesale and retail sales, product design, manufacturing, catalog design and production (including photography), visual merchandising, buying, and trade show presentation. Currently, she serves as Director of Retail Enterprises at the Japanese American National Museum. Her first introduction to MSA was in 1994 while working as a manager at the Autry Museum in Los Angeles.

A retail professional since 1978, Chris has been part of the museum store industry since 2009. He entered non-profit retailing as Director of Retail Services for The National WWII Museum in New Orleans. Chris’ MSA participation includes, South Atlantic Chapter Officer for 3 years, inaugural member of the Education Advisory Group, blog and Museum Store Magazine contributor, MSA Conference and Expo presenter, first MSA member to earn a Certificate, and winner of the first Product Development Award.

Ari Lowenstein, owner of Emergent Workshop LLC, has been active in the museum merchandising sector for 20 years and a member of the Museum Store Association since 1999. Over the past 18 years, he has brought three companies to the MSA Expo: Made in Museum of Rome, Italy; Clear Solutions of Hinsdale, New Hampshire; and the Unemployed Philosophers Guild of Brooklyn, New York, which was MSA‘s Vendor of the Year in 2015. Ari’s new venture has him helping multiple manufacturers navigate the specialty gift industry when he isn’t chopping wood at his cabin in Vermont.

Jason Harbonic has served a variety of associations over his 20 years in association management, including the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists, Mathematical Association of America and the International District Energy Association. He has experience in all aspects of association management and is pursuing his Certified Association Executive designation through the American Society of Association Executives.
